Mtwara Campus is one of the oldest campuses of the Institute established as a strategic campus mainly for serving the Southern Regions of Tanzania which are Mtwara, Lindi, Ruvuma and the Islands of Unguja and Pemba. 

The campus is located in Mtwara town. Specifically, it is located about 4.9 km from the shoreof Indian Ocean. Students are highly opting to join Mtwara Campus due to a number of reasons; the campus is serving its students under customer driven philosophy as students are listened, given room to disclose their talents and complaints are handled diligently with great empathy. Apart from that, they are highly exposed to practical learning environment in both private and public institutions found in Mtwara town such as learning logistics and customs operations conducted by Mtwara Port Authority and Tanzania Revenue Authority Mtwara regional and administrative offices, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Banks, Local Government Authorities (LGAs) and many other Institutions. This exposure help students to acquire competency that help them to compete well in the labor market.  Hostels are available at an affordable rates.

The geographical condition is featured by presence of coconuts, coral reefs scrubs, cliffs, and wave- cut platforms, caves, arches, stacks, stumps, headlands, and mangrove swamps all calling for an increasing number of students joining the campus. Furthermore, students do enjoy learning on the operations of cooperative unions of AMCOS found in Mtwara town and from the several actors of value chain analysis of cashew nut. Besides that, students enjoy weekends in the nearby beaches of Coco Beach and the other beaches where there is cool breeze and swimming opportunities. Sometimes they do conduct study tours to Selous Game Reserve (398 km) to see the beauty of these parks such as zebra, lions, giraffe, waterfalls, crocodiles, and the other varieties of animals. They do also enjoy visiting Mikindani Local Museum found in Mikindani Area (famously known as Mikindani Old Town) about 4.9 km from the campus to learn the ethnographic culture of Makonde. Therefore, students from different parts of the country can reach the campus by being dropped at Regional Bus Stand (6kms from campus), airport (11kms), Sea Port (14kms). Foreign students from neighboring countries of Msumbiji (35 km from the campus) and other countries are highly invited to apply for different programs.
