Doesn’t success mean avoiding failure?” The answer is no. All of us fail. As we travel, we all hit potholes, take wrong turns, or forget to check the radiator. The only person who avoids failure altogether is the person who never leaves her driveway.

So the real issue is not whether you’re going to fail. It’s whether you’re going to fail successfully (profiting from your failure) or allow failure to send you on a permanent stopage or detour. As Nelson Boswell observed, “The difference between greatness and mediocrity is often how an individual views mistakes.” If you want to continue on the success journey, you need to learn to fail forward.

Bellow are the four general guide to becoming a SUCCESSFUL STUDENT.

To remember the rules simply think of the word CORE; it stands for:-

C - Collect
O - Organize
R - Rehearse
E - Evaluate

Collect: In every single moment, we’re constantly collecting perceptions through our five senses. Without conscious effort, the brain takes in a multitude of sights, sounds,  smells,  tastes,  and  physical  sensations.  Most perceptions disappear within moments. Some however, such as our  first  language,  stick  for  a  lifetime.  Thus,  much  of what we learn in life we do without intention. In school,  however,  learning  needs  to  be  more  conscious. That’s because teachers expect you to learn specific information and skills. They also want you to demonstrate that knowledge on questions, tests, exams, term papers, and other forms of evaluation. In school, two of the most important ways you’ll collect information and skills are through reading textbooks and attending classes.

Collecting information through making notes; Remember there is a difference between taking notes and making notes, it is generally not useful to write down exactly what is contained in a text or to transcribe word for word what a teacher or lecturer says. This way of taking notes is a pretty passive activity and involves parroting what other people have written or said. A better strategy/orientation is to commit to ‘making notes’ – which is an active way of selecting, condensing, highlighting, structuring or paraphrasing the ideas and statements of other people.

Organize:  Once  we have  collected  information,  we need to make  sense  of  it.  When learning in everyday life, we tend to organize collected information in unconscious ways. We don’t even realize that we’re doing it. However, in school, you need to organize information systematically so it makes sense to you. In fact, making meaning from collected information is one of the most important outcomes of studying.

Rehearse:  Once  we collect and organize  our  target  knowledge, we  need  to remember it for future use. Rehearsing strengthens our memory and makes learning stick. When you solve five challenging math problems, you’re rehearsing. Over time, the process of solving becomes easier and more natural.

Evaluate: Life is great at giving us informal feedback about the quality of our learning. In schools, however, we are provided with more formal feedback; like weekly tests, term papers, quizzes, lab reports, essays, classroom questions, and final exams. Evaluation, both informal and formal, is an essential component of all learning because without feedback, we could never be  sure  if  our  learning  is  accurate  or  complete.

It is iportant to note that:- Learning doesn’t occur on a straight line or on step-by-step basis. At any moment while learning, you may need to jump to a different parts in the CORE system. For example, while Rehearsing, you might realize that some information doesn’t make  sense  to  you,  so  you  Organize  it  in  a  different  way.  At  times  you  may engage two or more components simultaneously. For instance, when Rehearsing study materials, you’re probably Evaluating your mastery of that knowledge at the same time. Thus, you can expect to use the four components of the CORE Learning System in any order and in any combination.

HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE

HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE People’s beliefs about their abilities have a profound effect on those abilities. Ability is not a fixed property; there is a huge variability in how you perform. People who have a sense of self-efficacy bounce back from failure; they approach things in terms of how to handle them rather than worrying about what can go wrong. Albert Bandura, US psychologist (b.1925). Share on WhatsApp | Share On Twitter 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do On Their Walk To Success 1. They Don’t Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves Mentally strong people don’t sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isn’t always easy or fair. 2. They Don’t Give Away Their Power They don’t allow others to control them, and they don’t give someone else power over them. They don’t say things like, “My boss makes me feel bad,” because they understa...
