is built on the foundation of the former University College of Education Zanzibar (UCEZ), established in 1998 by a Kuwait based charity organization, the Africa Muslims Agency (AMA/Direct Aid) founded in 1981. Thus, the owner of the University is AMA/Direct Aid and it is a product of its founder, Dr. Abdulrahman Hamoud Al-Sumait (1947- 2013), an accomplished physician, philanthropist, educator, researcher, author, pioneer and AMA founding member from whom the University bears its name. 

Location of the university

The University is located at Chukwani on the Islands of Zanzibar in the United Republic of Tanzania, about 5.5 kilometres from the seaport of the Zanzibar Old Stone Town, 2.5 kilometres from Abeid Karume International Airport and just 150 metres away from the West Coast of the Indian Ocean.

Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University Programmes & Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Arts with Education
  • Two principal passes in the following subjects: History, English, Geography, Kiswahili or Arabic.
  • Diploma in Education with an average of  “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0
Bachelor of Science with Education
  • Two principal passes in the following subjects: Physics, Advanced Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science or Geography
  • Diploma in Education with an average of  “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0
Bachelor of Arts in Counseling Psychology
  • Two principal passes in the following subjects: History, Geography, Kiswahili, English Language, Literature  in  English, French, Arabic, Fine Art, Economics, Commerce, Accountancy, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Mathematics, Agriculture, Computer Science or Nutrition.
  • Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, Public Health, Psychiatric, Medicine, Sociology, Social Work, Law, Nursing, Philosophy, Midwifery or Education with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
  • Two principal passes in Physics, Advanced Mathematics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Economics or Accounting. If  one  of  the  principal passes is not in Advanced Mathematics a subsidiary in Basic Applied Mathematics or a pass in Mathematics at 'O’ Level is required.
  • Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information System, Business Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Networks, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering with an average of  “B”  or a minimum  GPA of 3.0
